LIASA has been selected as a beneficiary of the first ELEVATEX funding call, a project co-funded by the European Union that promotes innovation and competitiveness among European textile SMEs. This support is dedicated to the industrialisation of PALUX, our paper cord for premium packaging bag handles.
The funding reflects our commitment to developing alternatives to synthetic materials that meet the needs of bag manufacturers and brands: maintaining a high-quality product presentation while moving towards packaging designed for easier recycling.
A European project connecting innovation and industry
ELEVATEX promotes the green and digital transition of the textile sector through funding, collaboration and access to specialist expertise. Its first funding call supports innovative developments that are close to market.
LIASA is one of the 20 SMEs selected in this call and one of four beneficiaries belonging to Tèxtils.CAT, the Catalan advanced textile materials cluster, of which we are a member. The cluster is a partner in the European consortium delivering ELEVATEX, coordinated by Techtera.
PALUX: paper from core to cover
LIASA’s project focuses on the standard-knit paper cord from the PALUX FSC® MIX CREDIT series, designed for premium bag handles.
Made entirely from paper, from core to cover, it offers an alternative to synthetic handles and reduces the variety of materials used in a bag. When the remaining components are compatible with the same recycling process, the handle and paper bag body can be recycled together, without having to separate them.
This approach combines the benefits of a mono-material composition with a textile-like look and feel, two relevant qualities for brands seeking to maintain a premium presentation.
What the funding will support
ELEVATEX funding supports the consolidation of PALUX’s industrial production process, including continuous manufacturing, strength testing and validation with premium bag manufacturers. The project also includes commercial preparation to align the offering with market needs.
These activities will take place between October 2026 and March 2027, strengthening the industrial and commercial foundations of a product already developed by LIASA.
Through this project, we continue to expand the possibilities of paper in packaging, offering our customers alternatives that combine functionality, design and recyclability.
