La Industrial Algodonera S.A. was founded on 9 December 1918, and started its life producing cotton and its derivatives.

Under the management of the Cabré family the company has gone from strength to strength over the years, diversifying its products and investing in the latest technology. Specializations arose within the company which led to it splitting into two separate entities.

La Industrial Algodonera S.A. (LIASA) produces braided cord for diverse uses and is market leader in several sectors; that of laces for the footwear industry, handles for bags and other types of packaging and technical cords.

Cintas y Pasamaneria S.A. (CINPASA) manufactures ruffling curtain tape and technical tapes.

Throughout its history LIASA has pushed ahead, using technological innovation to ensure continued development. In the 1980’s, aware of the changes that would impact the fashion industry they began to invest in limited production lines, using the extrusion method, and have since been able to offer more than 120 standard colours. In the 1990’s, in order to increase production and provide their customers with an extra fast service, they invested in over 500 pieces of braiding machinery and automated equipment. The beginning of the following decade saw them launching into injection technology by bringing in the machinery and know-how necessary to produce plastic ends for their cords and in turn provide their customers with novel ideas for their varying needs. They intend to operate at their present site of over 14,000m2 in La Selva del Camp, with a highly trained staff of 70, well into the future.

It was in 1985 when La Industrial Algodonera began to carry out tests and research programmes with a view to using more sophisticated machinery, and introduced the C.I.M. (Computer Integrated Manufacturing) system which allows them to have orders, regardless of colour, type and quantity, ready for despatch in the fastest possible time frame. Customers no longer needed to keep large amounts in stock.
